Interrogative Pronouns

Interrogative Pronouns are question words. They are pronouns that stand in place of the answer when used in a question. These pronouns are marked for case based on how they are used in the sentence. Since they are standing for a noun in the answer, that means the answer will have the same case as the question word.

Notice the case of the question words in each of the following questions in the charts below. The case is determined by the question word’s place in the sentence. Since generally the answer will fit the same slot in the sentence, the case of the answer word will match the case of the question word.
